About the Role

As Youth, Children’s & Families Minister, you will discern, shape and lead our future strategy for these core groups and be part of the broader church leadership team. Before the pandemic the Youth Ministry engaged with around 40 young people through youth clubs, with around half of these attending discipleship groups in the week and on Sundays. The children’s ministry engaged with 20+ families through Parents and Toddler groups each week, 20+ children on a Sunday morning, and 10 children through the Y4-6 after-school café, as well as doing Open the Book and other activities with local schools. These have been led by a young married couple, who have since left, one of whom to pursue ordination. This is therefore an opportunity to re-boot the ministry area as the parish emerges from lockdown. We anticipate that as this ministry area rebuilds, it may be appropriate to recruit an additional part-time role, potentially offering future flexibility in role responsibilities.

The successful candidate will possess the pastoral skills to nurture and encourage children & young people in our church and the surrounding community to grow in their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Key Responsibilities

Discern, re-shape and re-grow the youth, children’s and family’s ministry of St Tom’s

Manage the recruitment, resourcing and development of volunteers to support this ministry

Act as a role model, enabling children & young people to develop and use their God-given gifts in the life and worship of the church

Offer support for parents, and enable discipleship within the family setting

Maintain or develop relationships with the local schools

Together with the volunteers, lead / facilitate strategic programs to make and grow disciples

Support the ongoing development and implementation of the St Tom’s Safeguarding policy and procedures

Support outreach events including the Light Party, Carols in the Square and other community and missional events

Manage the budget appropriately for the ministry area

Training and Development

As a church, we are committed to the development of every team member. Funding for this will be provided where possible. You will be encouraged to take regular time out to invest into your own relationship with Jesus.

Experience and Qualifications


You will be a committed Christian with an active Christian faith. (This role has an Occupational Requirement to be a Christian, as permitted under Schedule 9, Part 1, of the Equality Act 2010)

Proven experience and a passion for children, youth & families ministry and a desire to grow in personal faith and love for Jesus

Be open to the work and voice of the Holy Spirit in your life and ministry and encourage others to do the same

Children’s or Youth Work Degree, Diploma or similar qualification

Excellent communication and administration skills

Desirable Qualifications

Some experience in larger scale out-reach and missional events

Theological Training and Experience

 Experience, Knowledge & Skills

Ability to relate and build relationship with people of all ages and especially youth and children

Able to inspire and explain the bible and kingdom lifestyle to children and youth

Have a good grasp and understanding of the bible

Proven ability to lead teams of volunteers

A belief that youth/children/families are valuable/ important part of the life of the church and are able to have a full relationship with Jesus

A good understanding and high value for safeguarding practices

DBS Check
