There is a staff team of twelve and the regular congregation numbers around 300 adults and 100 children. Like all churches we have been dealing with the ‘pivots’ and challenges arising from the covid pandemic, and the strategic questions and opportunities that face the church as a result.

Person Specification

The staff team is small and in recruiting this role we are aware that no one person will necessarily fulfil all the skills listed below. Crucial to the recruitment will therefore be a primary need to recruit someone who has transferrable skills and with the ability to recognise where they need external support either from the wider church family or through other contacts.

Experience & Education


  • Educated to A level or equivalent
  • Experience of leadership of a diverse team – ideally operating at a senior level
  • Experience of working with or leading a team of volunteers including in a church context
  • Experience of strategic management and leadership
  • Qualified or qualified by experience in budgeting and financial management


  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Experience of line management of volunteers 
  • Experience of facilities management
  • Experience of health and safety management
  • Experience of project management
  • Experience of working in a Church or Charity organisation.

Job Specification

The Operations Director reports to the Vicar. The role is Part Time 0.5 FTE, 18.75 hours, and based in Peckham, London offering a salary of £17,500 (£35,000 FTE).  There are 6 weeks of pro rata holiday and there is a Church of England workplace pension scheme with 3% employee contribution, 5% employer contribution. Working some evenings and Wednesdays– except when on leave - will be necessary, as will becoming a member of the All Saints Peckham worshipping community. This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Role Purpose

We have an annual turnover of £500,000 and have a large site in inner city London next to Peckham Rye Station.

You will be part of the church Senior Management Team, you will report to our vicar and attend our Standing Committee and Parochial Church Council (Trustees). You will prayerfully support the vicar on the strategic development of the site and ensure that all operational matters are delivered. The successful applicant will lead on the following areas:

  • Financial management and processes
  • Office systems
  • Governance
  • Payroll
  • HR administration. 

In addition, you will work closely with your line reports, the Events and Communications manager and Finance administrator, in the day-to-day running  of the Church, in order to fulfil our vision and calling.. You will also work closely with the Board of Trustees and ensure compliance with charity law and financial regulations.

Key Outcomes

  • Supporting the vicar in the prayerful discernment and refinement of the church's strategic vision.   
  • Working under the vicar to devise an operational plan implementing the strategic vision with staff and key stakeholders in the church family.
  • To lead the financial processes of the church alongside the two co-Treasurers, ensuring best practice including budgeting, forecasting and fundraising.
  • To help facilitate the PCC (trustee board), attending all meetings and acting as the staff link
  • To lead on HR aspects of the Church including, performance management cycle, recruitment and reward
  • Ensure that the correct operational IT systems are in place and to lead on GDPR compliance
  • To work with the vicar and Sunday team to make and deliver on timely decisions concerning any covid mitigation measures around Sunday services and other gatherings, including through Risk Assessments.
  • Manage administrative staff and volunteers and ensure the smooth running of all administrative and operational aspects of church life.
  • Develop and  oversee, with the Vicar, Trustees and other volunteers as appropriate, the effective use of communications within the church.
  • Manage the church’s information and communication technology systems working alongside other staff members and church volunteers.
  • To hold overall responsibility for the effective management and improvement of the church’s buildings, including the church, church centre, halls.
  • To lead on the operational aspects of safeguarding, becoming one of the two Parish Safeguarding Officers
  • Upon the instigation of the site development project to work alongside the incumbent in arranging suitable governance and leadership structure, so that the project can flourish.
