Romford Elim was established in 1957, we are a Pentecostal Church and are a part of a national movement known as the Elim Foursquare Gospel Alliance. We are a multicultural and multigenerational family church and our desire is to build people in their relationship to God, to each other and to world around us.

Hours work                 37.5 per week basis including evenings and weekends

Salary                         £27.000 – £29.000

Main Base                    The church office and also from home

Holiday                         25 days per annum, plus Bank Holidays.

Job summary:

The youth pastor position covers responsibility for the development and discipling of both youth and children.  We are looking for someone who loves young people and has direct hands on skills as an experienced worker and the capacity to oversee our youth & children’s work. The position requires a healthy biblical understanding of the bible and relevant experience in Christian discipleship. We are also looking for someone eager to build a youth ministry within Romford Elim that also reaches out to the community.

Main responsibilities:

  • To plan, lead and oversee a wide-ranging, relevant, and appropriate programme that will meet the spiritual and social needs across the youth spectrum within Romford Elim.
  • To develop and grow a weekly Sunday Youth & Junior Church taking the lead role for overseeing the structure of the teaching during these services.
  • To coordinate and oversee attendance on youth camps, conferences, trips, and community outreach events.
  • To encourage continual growth of the youth and children’s work both within the church and within the non-Christian community.
  • To recruit additional volunteers as necessary under the guidance of the Church Leadership team.
  • To provide appropriate pastoral care for the youth & children, both on Sundays and throughout the week, linking with the Senior Pastor in any areas of challenge or concern and accessing support from external mainstream services as necessary.
  • To provide regular opportunity for salvation commitments, following this up sensitively and providing ongoing discipleship for new believers.
  • To oversee the effective progression of young people throughout the discipleship process eg creche to Sunday school, Sunday School to youth, youth to church.

Professional development

  • Take active responsibility for professional development by attending annual youth worker conferences (E.g Elim Limitless Leaders), regional Elim youth worker meetings, Oxygen training days, pastoral supervision and formally agreed mentoring sessions.

Administration and church employee responsibilities:

  • To establish and maintain a working youth & children’s office on the church premises.
  • To attend office staff meetings and general staff training.
  • To attend leaders meetings and work in collaboration with the church leadership team.
  • To adhere to Romford Elim policies and procedures.
  • To continually implement safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • To always ensure safe working practices.
  • To write articles and/or provide verbal feedback to the church congregation or other audiences about significant youth events that have taken place (e.g summer camps, youth courses).
  • To effectively manage communications and social media before and after events, adhering to data protection regulations.
  • To provide a youth work reports where necessary on request, eg Elders meetings, at the Romford Elim AGM etc.
  • To effectively manage youth & children’s finances.

Personal Specification

Essential criteria:

  • The Youth Pastor is expected to make Romford Elim their main place of worship and actively serve in the life of the church.
  • Has a genuine pastoral heart and a passion and ability to lead young people to Christ and to nurture them in their faith.
  • Recognisable youth/children’s work qualifications.
  • Fully understands and is aligned with the Elim church’s statement of faith.
  • Self-motivation and great enthusiasm to disciple young people.
  • Excellent communications skills with young people and adults alike.
  • Strong organisational skills with an ability to organise a team and an ongoing schedule of events.
  • Able to quickly build and maintain trusting relationships, understanding boundaries of confidentiality and duty of care as a young people’s worker.
  • Able to both lead a team and work as a wider team member.
  • Holds a UK driving licence.
  • An up-to-date knowledge of current policies and practises in young people’s work.
  • A good track record in youth or children’s work with traceable references.
  • Able to work without close supervision whilst understanding personal competency and boundaries of one’s role.
  • Computer literate.
  • Level 3 Safeguarding

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working with IT systems.
  • Has undertaken recognisable theological education.
  • First Aid Training.
  • Able to occasionally preach in the main church services.
