Since 2016 St Luke's Church Cheltenham has sought to offer individuals the opportunity to explore full-time Christian ministry by training with us for 1-2 years in a hands-on manner, fully immersed in the life of a local church. Our intention is to create a flexible role and programme, with support and training, that suits the needs and gifts of each trainee. Previous trainees have ranged in age from 18 - 42 and gone on to paid employment in churches, ordination training or further education.
Previous Ministry Trainees have focused their time principally on children/youth and community engagement, alongside leading and preaching in worship. However, there are opportunities to engage with pastoral care, elderly ministry and chaplaincy, if these suited your interests.
We are happy for you to volunteer time on a part-time or full-time basis. We have options for local accommodation if suitable and required, and the church will cover any training costs and expenses associated with the role.
Our commitment at St Luke’s is to training Christian leaders. Our conviction is that there is no one-size fits all model for doing this. We believe we have a setting that can offer opportunities and flexibility to prepare individuals in a manner that befits them as an individual. In return, we have always experienced the blessing of new ideas and input, as well as the sense that God has grown us in ways we did not expect.
