Job Description

We are looking for a passionate follower of Jesus with a heart for Children and Families’ ministry.

St Luke’s Kentish Town is a young and vibrant Anglican church in Kentish Town, Camden in the heart of North London, part of the HTB family of churches, where we prioritize the ministry of both Word and Spirit. Our vision is to be a community ‘centred on Jesus, transforming north London, one life at a time’. The St Luke’s congregation is drawn from the local neighbourhood and gathering families from further afield, and we desire to reflect that in our service to children and families.

Our current Sunday children’s ministry involves around 40 children (aged 1-10) and their families. This is in addition to a youth work provision for those in years 6 upwards (this is run separately, but some crossover is expected). We also run a mid-week toddler group called Crumbs which attracts around 30 families from our local community.

Our vision for this ministry is three-fold

1. That the children at St Luke’s grow in the knowledge and love of God, as revealed through Jesus -the one who considered the presence of children as important as his adult observers.
2. That our parents are equipped to disciple their children in day to day life
3. That we create more opportunities to invite families in our community to experience the life-changing love of Jesus.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:  To work with the Clergy member with responsibility for Children’s and Families Ministry in running and developing Children and Families’ Ministry and outreach of St Luke’s, ensuring the St Luke’s priorities of ministry in Word and Spirit are maintained for our children and families.


● Plan and deliver Sunday children’s work provision alongside key Children and Families’ team leaders.
● Assist with the recruitment, training and deployment of the volunteer team.
● Communicate with and develop relationships of trust with parents.
● Administrate the Crumbs toddler group.
● Represent the priorities of Children & Families’ ministry as part of the staff team.

● Help with the planning and leading of occasional events, e.g., Light Party.
● Help with the planning and leading of occasional courses, e.g., Parenting For Faith.
● Ensure best safeguarding practice across the ministry.


● Prepare curriculum and resources for Sunday provision in consultation with Children & Families’ team leaders.
● Administer the recruitment process for the volunteer team, and safeguarding policies

● Embrace and seek to model the Vision and Values of St Luke’s as outlined by the Vicar and uphold the code of conduct supported by the Church of England.
● Maintain life-giving patterns of personal prayer, worship, Bible study and church fellowship.


We are looking for someone who:
● loves Jesus and is passionate about seeing Him at work in the life and mission of the local church.
● loves spending time with children, and has natural rapport with 0-10 years olds.
● has some skills and abilities to engage children and their families in worship, discipleship and mission, and is receptive to growing these abilities.
● is organized and has transferable administrative skills to assist with recruiting leaders and
administration of safeguarding practices
● considers their ‘spiritual home’ within the kind of “Charismatic Evangelical” tradition expressed
across the HTB network of churches.
● is a ‘Peter Person’ ie, someone who, like the apostle Peter, is teachable, responding to both praise
and developmental feedback with confidence and humility.
● is committed to continual personal growth as a disciple of Jesus, maintaining life-giving patterns of worship, prayer, Bible reading and Church fellowship.


● Due to the nature of the work, it is an occupational requirement that the post holder is a committed Christian.
● The appointment is subject to initial and continuing satisfactory DBS checks.
● You will actively attend and involve yourself in life at St Luke’s.
● Salary starting between £24-30k, subject to experience, with a pay review after 12mths.
● The candidate will ideally commit to more than a year in the role, and a probationary period will be applicable depending on the length of the contract.
● This is a full time post. The hours are 35 hours per week spread across a maximum of 6 days
including Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Please note that hours may increase during times of
high activity. Time in lieu may then be taken.
● While this is a full-time post we are open to exploring part-time/ flexible working.
