Job Title:                     Children and Family Mission Lead (0 – 11 years)

Hours:                         Full Time 35 hours per week – flexible work hours will include working some weekends and evenings

Location:                     Based at Thomas Risley Church “TRC”, Locking Stumps, Warrington

Responsible to:          Management committee –

which will include Line Manager, Elders’ & Synod representatives

Remuneration:           £24000 per annum

 

Job Purpose

To see the Kingdom of God further established amongst the children and families in the Birchwood area, particularly Locking Stumps - both those currently in the life of the church and those who are not.

We wish to appoint an inspiring and enthusiastic committed Christian ready to develop the work of TRC, to enable children and families to encounter the love of God in the gospel of Jesus Christ and encourage them to come to their own faith in Christ.  We would also like the worker to help us develop the Church, as people are added, to become a more inclusive, all age community of faith.

The overall purpose of the Children’s & Families’ Mission Lead will be to pioneer, develop and grow our ministry, building on the many existing links we have with children and families, both within the church and in the community, enabling children (with their families) to find a home in the life and worship of TRC.  We want to grow our ministry with families both inside and outside the church community - for the church to be good news for the families in our community.

To enthuse and empower TRC to play an active part in developing this essential ministry.  To work in partnership with the TRC Minister, Elders and URC Special Category Minister (SCM) Birchwood Minister in reaching the children and families of our community.

Job Description

Role and responsibilities

 

·       To develop and build on TRC’s existing provision for children and to move us on with fresh vision and energy. This will include planning and delivering children’s groups which are meaningful, lively, enjoyable, and accessible.

 

·       To work with children and their families in TRC, encouraging them to explore and grow in their Christian faith and become lifelong disciples of Jesus, able to share their faith with confidence.

 

·       To develop pioneering work within the community, building relationships with people and exploring new and exciting ways of bringing God’s love to people.

 

  • To build and develop contacts and relationships in the community becoming the contact on behalf of the church for children and family liaison.

 

  • To interact with relevant local and statutory agencies as appropriate.

 

  • To be responsible for appropriate and effective communication – including engagement on social media, keeping up to date with suitable Christian events, literature, and publications.

 

 

·       To ensure appropriate records of contacts, attendance, content, and review of sessions/activities/events are completed.

 

·       To understand and implement best practice in children’s work, including Health & Safety, First Aid, Food Safety, Safeguarding and GDPR policies and procedures and model good practice to others.

 

·       To work with line manager to set objectives and review job role, including completion of time sheets, identifying training needs, supervision, and appraisal.

 

·       Any other duties related to the role, which may from time to time be reasonably required, as agreed with your line manager. 

Partnership working – Year 1/2

·       To get to know and understand the needs of children and families in the local community through listening and prayer.

 

·       To re-establish Messy Church – setting up, leading, planning, organising, recruiting, and coordinating volunteer helpers – starting within three months of commencement of post.

 

·       To explore and establish a mid-week children’s activity group to start within six months of commencement of post.

 

·       To be involved in leadership, planning and delivery of weekly Tommy’s Tots session (Carer and Toddler group).

 

·       To become part of the Junior Church leaders’ team, contributing to termly forward planning and preparing and leading one Junior Church Sunday session per month.

 

  • To explore and develop ecumenical opportunities to work with the other churches and Christian workers in Birchwood.

 

Partnership working – Year 2/3

·       To promote engagement with non-church families, developing relationships which will enable the fruitful nurturing and growth of the Christian faith in children and their families, including passionately representing the views and interests of children and families with whom the church is seeking to build relationships.

 

·       To welcome and encourage children and their families to contribute actively to the life of the church.

 

·       To explore and develop opportunities for All Age Worship in TRC and increase the involvement of families, working towards a monthly Sunday church service.

 

 

·       To work with leaders of the various uniformed organisations meeting at TRC, building stronger links with the congregation, and encouraging the children and families to have greater involvement in the life and worship of the church.

 

·       To develop the existing links that we have with the various local schools in our community, growing further opportunities to share the Christian faith through assemblies, lessons, and other activities.

 

·       To encourage and help deliver special events for children and families e.g., all age gathering opportunities, Holiday Club, Easter, and Christmas events.

 

Partnership working – Year 3/4/5

  • To recruit, train, motivate and supervise volunteers to develop the children’s and families’ ministry.

 

  • To promote children’s and young people's interests within TRC.

 

  • To be responsible for promotion and advertising of children’s ministry program and events.

 

  • To research, promote and participate in relevant wider Synod and National URC events.
