TRINITY Lewes is looking for our next Youth Minister

-        To lead and grow our thriving Youth Ministry

-        Who is gospel centred, evangelical, spirit-filled and spirit-led and sympathetic to charismatic renewal

-        Who is able to understand the potential, direction and challenges that TRINITY (and the wider church) is facing

-        Who seeks to grow in knowledge and love of Jesus Christ through a regular pattern of prayer and bible study

-        Who has significant experience in full time Christian ministry


Who we are at TRINITY

TRINITY is a vibrant and outward-looking Anglican Church with more than 300 people meeting across 3 locations and 5 congregations throughout the beautiful town of Lewes, East Sussex.  With a core of more than 20 young people and a larger fringe, the purpose of this role is to be the strategic and spiritual leader of our Youth Ministry (11-18 years) to see lives transformed by the love of Christ by helping young people to become whole-hearted disciples of Jesus.

You will join a staff team of:

-        Anita Colpus; Rector

-        Paul Boulter; Associate Vicar (new appointment to be licensed September 2022)

-        Jeremy Bamber; part-time Associate Vicar

-        Emma Dyer; part-time children/family worker (temporary contract)

-        Janette Watkins; part-time Pastoral Minister

-        Joy Shave; café manager

-        Christine Angell; part-time Administrator

-        Richard Colpus; part-time Bookings Administrator

-        Bill Telford; part-time Assistant Treasurer


What we already run for our Youth

-        Pathfinders (Sunday morning during our worship at St John sub Castro; Yr 7-10)

-        The Hub (Tuesday evenings; Yr 7-9)

-        The Edge (Friday evening; Yr 9-13)

-        Fuel (Sunday evening; Yr 9-13)

-        D of E (connected with Chichester Diocese Duke of Edinburgh award project)

-        Weekends away

The current Youth Minister also ran our Gaming Café on Thursday evenings, which is for youth and adults

-        They will become devoted disciples of Jesus Christ and come to faith/grow in faith, through knowing God as King and Father, Jesus as Lord and Saviour and to experience the presence and the impact of the Holy Spirit

-        They will be mentored and encouraged to be the next generation of Christian leaders in all spheres of the Christian faith (preaching, leading, music, outreach, mission etc.)

-        They will feel confident to invite their friends to TRINITY

-        They will be proud of belonging to Jesus and TRINITY

-        They will grow to be confident secure young adults with a solid faith in Jesus

-        There will be a variety of groups and activities for them across our sites & venues

-        Will have regular supervision sessions with your line manager (Rector)

-        Will continue to grow and flourish in faith and leadership

-        To attend courses and conference for leadership and personal development (as agreed with the Rector and paid for by TRINITY)

-        Will have healthy work/life balance and take holiday and days off

-        Will have time quiet days and a spiritual retreat every year (to be discussed and arranged through the Rector)

-        Has a flexible approach to hours and roles

-        Has experience and evidence of running and leading Youth ministry

-        Is fun and creative with others and with ideas


Some of your responsibilities

-        Involvement at our gathered worship services, especially up front with All Age & Youth services

-        Attending services as a member of the congregation (when possible)

-        Attend other church activities (as discussed with line manager)

-        Strategic development for Youth ministry across TRINITY

-        Awareness of, and intentional implementation of our safeguarding policies and requirements

-        Managing the Youth budget

-        Lead, equip, develop, encourage & support existing Youth Leaders/helpers and grow the team

-        Lead and manage the pastoral care for young people

-        Develop TRINITY’s involvement in local secondary schools/colleges (after-school clubs, assemblies etc.)

-        Engage and connect with the Diocese and their Youth initiatives and support

As a faith-based organisation, our beliefs are foundational to everything we do.  It is therefore an occupational requirement for any applicant to be a practising Christian and a communicant member of the CofE or of a church in communion therewith or of a member Church of the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland or of Churches Together in England, or of a member Church the Evangelical Alliance.  They must also already have the right to work and remain in the UK.

At TRINITY we are committed to well-being and safety for all and we adhere to and implement the Chichester Diocese Safeguarding policies.  The Youth Minister would be part of TRINITY’s safeguarding team who regularly meet together.

This initial job description forms neither an exhaustive list of duties nor a set of “hard and fast” expectation and requirements, but rather serves to outline the role.  TRINITY believes that each individual has been blessed with different gifts and talents, and that it is key these are considered when creating a detailed job description.  As such a more detailed job description will be developed with the successful candidate during their first year.  There will be a 6 month probationary period.

Salary: between £25,000 - £32,000 (depending on experience and qualification)

(There is a possibility of TRINITY being able to provide accommodation, however this is through the Diocese and not certain to be agreed.)
