Job Description

One of the UK’s most inspiring and best-known faith-based organisations is looking for a passionate and meticulous Chaplain to be part of the team at Hadleigh Training Centre Essex.

The Salvation Army Hadleigh Farm Estate incorporates the Mission Team, the Hadleigh Training Centre, the Rare Breeds Centre, the Hadleigh Tea Rooms, the Hub visitor centre and a working commercial Farm.

In total, the Estate attracts in excess of 700,000 foot-fall per annum. The work carried out across the Hadleigh Farm Estate reflects The Salvation Army's core Mission, 'Love God, Love Others

As a Chaplain you will be responsible for proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ, be visibly accessible representative of The Salvation Army and its identity, culture, ethos and associated values.  Ensure regular Christian worship takes place including eh celebration of Christian festivals, and to provide opportunities for Christian discovery/discipleship groups.

You will lead Christian prayers, bible study, Mission and Christian mentoring and ensure all those who are connected to the Estate, receive pastoral care/support and spiritual nurture.

Please note this role is 16 hours per week (Monday - Friday 08:30 to 17:00) plus unsociable times.

You will…

  • Proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed.
  • Be a visibly accessible representative of The Salvation Army and its identity, culture, ethos and associate values.
  • Ensure regular Christian worship takes place, including the celebration of Christian festivals, and to provide opportunities for Christian discovery/discipleship groups.
  • Play an active part in the Mission Journal for the Estate
  • Establish and maintain meaningful and professional relationships with service users, staff, relatives, visitors and external agencies.
  • Assess and address the cultural, religious and spiritual needs of other faiths and seek to build cross-community relationships to this end. To provide guidance on multi-faith issues ensuring that the spiritual wellbeing of all is recognised and supported.
  • Ensure all those who are connected to the Estate, receive pastoral care/support and spiritual nurture.
  • Meet regularly with the Emerging Mission Officer to review the spiritual programme and continually develop this programme to effectively enable the mission of The Salvation Army

You have…

  • Experience of leading worship and presenting the Gospel in a relevant way
  • Recognition of being a Soldier in your Corps or Recognition of local Church Membership
  • The ability to be flexible and adapt your hours to the needs of those you support
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal, with a wide variety of people
  • The ability to initiate conversations, be self-motivated and to use your own initiative appropriately
  • Confidence in your faith and not threatened when it is questioned
  • The ability to cope in challenging circumstances
  • Interacted with a variety of client groups
  • The desire to represent the Salvation Army locally#
  • Good IT skills

You may have…

  • Experience of pastoring or counselling
  • Experience of delivering Christian worship specifically for adults with additional support needs and barriers to learning and employment
  • Knowledge of other faiths/belief systems
  • Experience of working as a team
