Children's Outreach Worker

We are looking to recruit two Children's Outreach Workers to work alongside the local Corps (churches) within the Central, Southern & Channel Islands Division to establish and develop outreach programmes with children not currently connected to a Corps.  The aim of these roles is to build the programme to the point where it can be sustained by the Corps allowing the worker to be deployed elsewhere.   

 

The Central, Southern & Channel Islands Division headquarters is split between an office in High Wycombe and an office in Southampton Sholing the applicant will be able to use either location as a base but will predominantly work on a peripatetic nature. The Division covers Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Channel Islands, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Oxfordshire plus the city of Salisbury.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver a range of innovative child centred community outreach, engagement and discipleship activities, both online ‘virtual’ services and physical ‘face-to-face’ programmes.
  • Work co-operatively with schools, children’s statutory services and other community based and voluntary services.
  • Communicate with and coordinate the partnering of corps leadership and divisional teams regarding the project’s development including recruiting and supporting local people to become volunteers and active leaders in the project.

 

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • A nationally recognised qualification in children’s work and/or good experience of working with children in areas of outreach, discipleship and leadership.
  • Practical experience of developing community children’s outreach projects and of developing and harnessing external partnership opportunities and relationships.
  • The ability to work flexibly to deliver the requirements of your role such as evening work/weekend work/overnight and residential weeks throughout the year.
  • A full UK driving licence & own transport (expenses paid for)


This role has an occupational requirement that the successful candidate must be a committed and practising Christian and will be in sympathy with the doctrines of, and supportive of, the purposes and the aims and objectives of The Salvation Army.

Working hours: 14 hours per week (Flexible approach Monday to Sunday working pattern)
