Kay Street Baptist Church, Rawtenstall, Lancashire are seeking a minister to lead our fellowship alongside our staff team of associate minister, family and children’s worker and CAP debt centre manager.
We are a lively church based in the centre of a Lancashire town. For many years our mission statement has been “Making Christ Known”, and this is as true today as the day we first adopted it. We are a church focussed on ushering in God’s kingdom into our present reality and wanting to continue to do so – becoming more effective in this by growing, adapting and changing according to God’s will for us. We are open to change; our congregation has God given skills and abilities, and we are looking for a minister who will lead, equip and enable us to further fulfil our calling to our town.
More than anything, we don’t want to become a complacent church. Our ministerial profile (see below) has its bullet points in purposeful order. Primarily, we want to “move forward together into the future God has prepared”.
We are a busy church with many activities that go beyond Sunday worship. Something is happening every day of the week. There are very well supported children’s activities that run on numerous days of the week. These are supplemented with activities during each holiday period. A dementia choir and a Ukrainian support group meet weekly, and we host a Christian bookshop.
Our outreach tends to have a social action focus although we remain of the belief that preaching the gospel is essential. Each Monday evening a two course meal is provided to a varied group of people at no charge. There are usually about 60 people that attend, many of whom struggle with aspects of life. A food bank is also available. A drop in café operates each Tuesday, which serves a similar group of people. Table tennis clubs operate on a number of evenings, and we have two associated football teams.
We are also blessed by a number of other groups like a pastoral team, a prayer team, and a missions team who keep a focus on the missionary work that the church supports. There are also teams for the practical elements of church life: music, technical, services and premises.
We are a Baptist church and are aligned to both the Baptist Union and the North-West Baptist Association. If you are not from a Baptist background, we recommend you familiarise yourself with Baptist perspectives via this link, which will take you to the “Being a Baptist” pages on the Baptist Union web-site:
