Job Description

The Hub, Beeding is seeking a Children and Family / Families Worker to continue and expand the community ministry at The Hub.

It’s a fixed term (12 month), part-time (60% FTE) contract with the possibility of expanding to a permanent, full-time job in due course.

Responsibilities

Our community ministry has evolved due to the diverse needs of the community in which we live. It serves all ages. The role will take on and build upon the foundations already in place, namely:

Messy Church

  • Runs on the third Saturday of each month and is attended by up to 20 families. Strong relationships are formed, and many who attended some sessions last year also came to Christmas events at the Hub.
  • Work with volunteers.
  • Plan, prep, set up and clear up each session.

Positive Play

  • A weekly play session run with the help of three volunteers on a rota, supporting approximately 20-25 families each week.  Over the year, more than 50 families have been involved.
  • Work with volunteers.
  • Plan, prep, set up and clear up each session.

Other

  • Create and run ad-hoc family focused events, such as summer play picnics, pumpkin patch light parties etc
  • Communication – including the social media channels for the café and community work
  • Informally build relationships with families in the Hub Café, potentially taking occasional shifts in the café as time permits.
  • Support and participate in Hub Kids (our Sunday morning church sessions for children)

Additionally, if the candidate has the appropriate license we would like to continue to offer Positive Parenting courses. Support may be given to obtain the license.

Person requirement

  • Caring, empathetic person;
  • be a mature Christian (Occupational Requirement in place), with some evidence of calling to this role;
  • willing to become a member of this church, committed to its vision and values;
  • able to work on their own initiative;
  • with a servant heart, being a listener, a learner;
  • A keen team player and an effective communicator;
  • Experience and/or a qualification in Children and Family Work will be an advantage.

  • Flexibility and creative thinking;
  • High standards but working with the resources and people available;
  • Experience working with vulnerable people;
  • Ability to lead and coordinate volunteers;
  • excellence in communication;
  • IT skills (as necessary);
  • ability to work under pressure, managing time and interruptions.

Line management

This role is line-managed by the Minister (or a designated Trustee when there is no minister).

Supervision

A Trustee or senior colleague will be assigned for regular supervision sessions.

Hours

3 days / 21 hours per week, arranged throughout the week according to the needs of the role and reasonable flexibility.

Note that due to the nature of the work some aspects of the job will occur in the evenings and weekends.

Location

Hybrid. Due to the nature of the job much of the work will take place at The Hub, but this can be combined with working from home when appropriate.

Salary and benefits

Range £17,472 to £19,110 per annum depending on suitable qualifications and/or experience.

Paid monthly across 12 equal monthly instalments throughout the year.

An occupational pension scheme is in operation.

Holiday

12 days, plus 60% of English Public Holidays.

Probationary period

3 months.
