Job Description

Friends International is an evangelical mission agency dedicated to supporting and equipping UK churches to reach international students for Christ. We currently have 75 Field Staff and Associates working in 41 university towns and cities across the UK.

Reporting to the National Director, you will lead and oversee the finance function of Friends International. You will help Friends International to thrive financially as a Christian agency, ensuring financial policy adherence, legal compliance and good practice. You will help apply key decisions from a perspective of prayerful Christian stewardship and dependence on God. The post holder must model and reflect the Christian ethos, mission, vision and values of Friends International in all aspects of the role and be able to explain them to others. There is, therefore, an occupational requirement for the post-holder to be a practising Christian in agreement with our statement of faith and vision and values, which can be found on our website.

You will have:

  • At least 2 years’ experience performing a range of financial functions, including budgeting, financial monitoring/reporting, payroll management, and working with external auditors
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and practices
  • Sound knowledge and experience of relevant financial reporting standards
  • A high level of numeracy
  • A high level of computer literacy
  • Excellent attention to detail, thoroughness, diligence and perseverance
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The interpersonal skills to relate well with a wide range of people and to work effectively as part of a team 

Desirable Qualities:

  • Qualified Accountant
  • Experience using Sage
  • Experience using CRM systems e.g. Access thankQ
  • Experience of running the financial aspects of a UK Charity

Hours: 35 hours per week

Salary: In the range £35,000-£40,000 p.a. determined on experience and qualifications

It is hoped that the successful candidate will be able to raise around 10% personal support

Location: The Friends International Support Centre near Ware, with some UK travel
