The Northumbria Community is a dispersed network of people from different backgrounds, streams and edges of the Christian faith spread across the UK, Europe, North America, Australia and elsewhere. Our Companions (full members) and Novices are united in a desire to embrace and express an ongoing exploration into a new Way for Living for Christ, rooted in the monastic spirituality of the Celtic Church, a way of living that offers hope in our changed and changing cultures of today’s world. The Community is also supported by a network of Friends of Community.
Located in rural Northumberland close to the village of Felton, the Community’s Mother House, Nether Springs, is a sign of heart, hope, home and hospitality within the wider Community. It is formed around a shared monastic daily rhythm and is a place of retreat throughout the year. Nether Springs welcomes people from all over the world and from all kinds of backgrounds, whether they are part of the Community or not, and wherever they are on their journey of faith. Nether Springs also serves as the administrative centre of Community and is home to the Community Shop which stocks an extensive range of resources.
The Northumbria Community Trust is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Northumbria Community. The Trust has 13 employees and 24 volunteers, some of whom work or volunteer on-site at Nether Springs and some who work or volunteer remotely supporting the activities across our dispersed Community.
