We are a multi-ethnic, intergenerational church committed to worshipping Jesus together, empowered by the Spirit to serve one another and the communities represented throughout our congregation and beyond.
The church’s spirituality is reflected in its worship and practice. There is a mixture of evangelical, charismatic, Pentecostal and contemplative traditions. SBC’s Baptist history can be traced back to Charles Spurgeon, so there is a strong emphasis on biblical preaching. The church also has a long history of social action, highlighted in projects such as the Friendly Club which supports the elderly, ‘The Vine’ which provides support for local vulnerable people and rough sleepers and its wider support of local and international mission.
The recent appointment of our new Senior Pastor marks an exciting new chapter for SBC, enabling us to build on our rich legacy and move forward with renewed confidence after a period of challenge in the life of the church. We are part of Baptists Together, the Evangelical Alliance, and a local ecumenical partnership, “Love Streatham.” SBC is a welcoming church with a wide range of views held by members but held together by a common commitment to the Way of Jesus.
