Collinwood Road United Reformed Church, Oxford
A small but lively church serving the Risinghurst and Sandhills estates on eastern edge of the city. It is the only church physically located in its 'parish'. Blessed with an excellent set of buildings, including two halls and a community café. The church runs a weekly lunch-club for the over-60s and a well attended community breakfast. In the summer we organise a children's holiday club, and in September a fun-day which one of the major events of the local community.
We have small numbers and limited resources, but have a relatively strong missional outlook and are never short of creative ideas. We are committed to growth, not to keep our 'club' going, but because we believe the people in our 'parish' need the Good News of Jesus Christ.
As a church we are in no danger of becoming fundamentalists. We are open to critical biblical scholarship and are socially liberal (being welcoming and affirming of same-sex relationships). However, we can also sound classically evangelical. We would want to say that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and that we need to accept him as our Lord and Saviour. We love modern worship songs as much as Isaac Watts. We are used to children being present throughout our services and are committed to developing participative, accessible, spiritually deep and theologically literate all-age worship.
