Harvington Youth Project is a registered charity and joint project founded in 1994 as a collaboration between the Baptist Chapel and Anglican Church, who formed a Joint Steering Group to develop the Project which still runs to this day. Our vision and driving force are taken from the Gospel according to John 10:10 where Jesus says, “I have come to give life, life in all its fullness.” This is something we strongly believe, and we actively seek to provide an environment in which young people can explore what this means for them.
Our aim is to communicate the powerful and life-changing teachings of Jesus in a way that is easy to access and understand. We want to share our Christian faith with the young people of Harvington, providing them with an opportunity to respond to it. We are committed to care for these young people through the Youth Worker, alongside a broad team of volunteers and Steering Group members, which enable the project to run. We want to see the potential of young people drawn out and to involve them in the wider community.
We currently run three youth groups called Adventurers (7 to 10 years), Explore (10 to 13) and Ignite (13+). We also recruit and develop young leaders from 16 upwards. Recently, and part of the future of this Project, Messy Church has been developed in the local community. The trial period has been wonderful with over 80 children and family members coming together. Consultation with members, families and the village primary school, have given us the clear message that expansion is needed amongst the youngest age group. In addition, the success of Messy Church will add more opportunity to become involved with the growing number of families in the village.
We aim to share Christian faith with young people of Harvington, providing them with opportunities to respond. We are committed to care holistically; spiritually, physically and mentally, enhancing their potential and community involvement.
