Sharnbrook Evangelical Church

Sharnbrook Evangelical Church is a community of Christians drawn from Sharnbrook and the surrounding villages. Together we seek to worship God, come to know Jesus more and, through word and deed, to make Him known to the people of Sharnbrook and the surrounding villages of rural north Bedfordshire.

We meet in Sharnbrook Academy, the catchment area of which covers a population of 14,700 people in twenty civil parishes of which Sharnbrook is the largest village and a ‘key service centre’ in Bedford Borough’s strategic plan.

We are united by our love for Jesus, have a wide range of ages, and come from different walks of life and different church backgrounds.

We have a twofold aim as a church: To know Jesus and to make Jesus known.

First, this means that as Christians we seek to encourage one another to deepen our relationship with Jesus, becoming more like Him and growing in our Christian lives.

Second, it means that we want to share our faith with people who do not yet know Jesus.

We focus our life together on exploring the Bible and what is revealed there about Jesus through the Holy Spirit – allowing Him to lead and transform us.

We have around thirty adults in our fellowship, twenty of whom are members. At present we have few children and young people in attendance, all from church families.

We meet on Sunday mornings for fellowship, worship, prayer, and listening to a Bible based talk. Many of us also meet during the week in house groups for fellowship, prayer, and Bible study.

We want to make all our meetings informal, and accessible and relevant to all. Seeking to make everyone welcome.

We cherish children and young people and provide opportunities for them to explore the Bible, respond to Jesus and grow in faith. At the moment this includes a midweek meeting for young people. We have also enjoyed a strong link to the Primary school for fifteen years, running a weekly Bible club and taking lessons at Christmas and Easter. Pre-covid we also supported a student group in Sharnbrook Academy.

The church is a member of the Evangelical Alliance and adheres to the EA basis of faith. The previous pastor and the continuing elder are both members of the Pastors Network of the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches, and the elder is a member of the Four Counties Gospel Partnership.
