A Learning Place (ALP for short) is a small, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting secondary age learners who need a little help. We offer part time placements at our centre for young people who are unable to attend school for various reasons. We are an approved Alternative Provider for Cambridgeshire which means that local schools can commission us to support learners struggling to access mainstream education. This may be because of trauma, mental health conditions, physical health or a breakdown in relationships with the school. We also welcome learners whose placements are arranged by parents or carers

Our lovely little centre is located just outside Waterbeach on the Sunrise Business Park surrounded by wildflowers and frequently visited by rabbits and woodpeckers. Learners typically attend the centre for three to five half days per week. We teach English, Maths and Science to most of our learners and additional subjects on a case by case basis. Wherever possible, we support our learners to achieve GCSEs.

Our aim is to provide a safe learning place where both staff and learners can flourish. Our approach is characterised by gentleness and encouragement. We aim to empower learners (and often staff) to recover their confidence, enthusiasm and self belief.
