£32,433 - £40,917 yearly

Job Description

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Church of Scotland Stipend Scale which starts at £26,119 and is reviewed annually.  A manse (house) is provided.

Will you consider making the Outer Hebrides the centre of your ministry?

The recently united parish of Uist and Barra, in the beautiful southern area of the Outer Hebrides, is seeking to call a full-time Minister of Word and Sacrament.

The Parish of Uist and Barra was established in January 2025 as a union of the former parishes of Barra linked with South Uist and Benbecula linked with Carinish.

We are seeking a leader with vision and a sense of call to the exciting task of developing and delivering ministry in Uist and Barra.  You will be supported by 1FTE Ministries Development Staff (which may be split into more than one post).

Although not obliged to learn Gaelic, you should be supportive of Gaelic and its culture and heritage.  You will be supported by an encouraging congregation and a dedicated team of volunteers.

We are an open and accepting church, welcoming all into our fellowship.  On many occasions you will find worship services enlarged and enriched by visitors holidaying in the islands.  We are at one in our desire to build and strengthen God’s work and Kingdom in the islands, through loving service, prayer and the preaching and teaching of His Word.  In this we work well with other local Catholic and Protestant churches with whom we have ready access to local schools, hospitals and care homes.  You will join us working for God in the community for the community.

The use of IT to support our congregation and further its outreach has become increasingly significant in our widespread islands parish.  You will be encouraged to help facilitate and guide the further development and use of IT with creativity and vision.

To find out more about us and the wonderful community and environment in which we live please view our parish profile (https://www.facebook.com/uistandbarrachurchofscotland.org) and interview (https://youtu.be/dv-rh1wvOeU).

Although geographically we are at the edge of Scotland, so much of what we are here is central to the life of Scotland and over the years God has shown our area to be far from remote from His grace and transforming power.
