We are hiring a Youth Worker who will develop, lead, and nurture the faith of young people across Burghfield and Mortimer villages.
Mortimer and Burghfield Methodist Churches have growing numbers of young people in their congregations. At Mortimer four teenagers and six primary school aged children regularly worship, and at Burghfield eight teenagers and 12 primary school aged children are present most Sundays. Beyond Sunday worship, the secondary school aged children attend a fortnightly Sunday evening youth club, along with another dozen young people from a neighbouring church. An additional mid-week group is being set up, and a Bible study for the older young people (16+ ) is running this summer – shared with a third local free church.
Summer holiday clubs are often run with other local churches, and youth weekends, firework nights, BBQs, alpha courses and baptisms are part of both churches’ heritage. There are experienced and new volunteers in both congregations.
The young people of both churches attend the same secondary school which is open to support for its Christian Union and other pastoral needs. Primary Schools in the area are always eager for speakers in their assemblies. Positive relationships with other churches bring exciting opportunities for further future collaboration, outreach and growth.
The BHB Methodist Circuit is a network of twenty-five churches across western Berkshire and northern Hampshire, united by a vision to proclaim God's love as a justice-seeking community. Our mission is to be a growing, inclusive, and evangelistic church where faith deepens and communities are transformed. We resource local churches with funding, guidance, and personnel to launch outreach initiatives or, where appropriate, navigate a faithful ending that leaves a lasting legacy.
