Chair (Non-Executive) – Membership & Professional Standards Body
Part-time - 40 days per year - £20,000 per annum (actual salary)
An established UK membership organisation operating within a regulated professional services environment is seeking an experienced Non-Executive Chair to provide strategic leadership, strong governance and trusted support to its Chief Executive.
This is a high-impact, part-time role suited to a senior leader with proven board-level experience who enjoys shaping strategy, fostering effective governance, and acting as a critical friend to executive leadership.
The Role
As Chair, you will lead and align the organisation’s governing and executive boards, ensuring high standards of accountability, ethical conduct and long-term strategic focus. You will act as the CEO’s direct reporting line and a trusted sounding board, while remaining non-executive and independent from day-to-day operations.
Key elements include:
Chairing board meetings and ensuring agendas reflect strategic priorities
Providing governance oversight across boards and committees
Supporting, advising and performance-managing the CEO
Championing best practice in governance, risk management and compliance
Acting as an ambassador with key external stakeholders when required
Promoting diversity, inclusion and constructive board culture
About You
Significant senior leadership experience, ideally as a Chair or Non-Executive Director
Strong governance expertise and experience leading boards
Strategic insight and sound judgement within complex organisations
Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills
A collaborative, impartial leadership style with high integrity
Experience acting as a trusted advisor to a senior executive
Direct sector experience is not essential, but a genuine commitment to understanding the profession and its unique challenges is important.
Practical Details
Commitment of approximately 40 days per year (flexible, including occasional evenings/weekends)
UK-based, with eligibility to work and travel as required
