The British Society for Neuroendocrinology (BSN) is seeking an inspiring Chief Executive Officer / CEO on a part-time basis, to lead its continued growth, strengthen partnerships and support its global membership community. JOB OVERVIEW We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Chief Executive Officer / CEO to work closely with Trustees of the British Society for Neuroendocrinology (BSN) in shaping and delivering the Society’s strategic vision. As a Chief Executive Officer / CEO you will be responsible for implementing strategic plans, ensuring sound governance, financial stability and operational effectiveness across all BSN activities. The Chief Executive Officer / CEO will lead staff, freelancers and volunteers, manage external suppliers and develop collaborative partnerships with other scientific societies to support long-term growth, journal performance and member engagement. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior leader to drive performance, strengthen governance and support BSN members at every stage of their career. About the BSN The BSN is a long-established society with over 700 members, about 40% of which are based outside the UK. The BSN runs an annual meeting and has a successful international journal, the Journal of Neuroendocrinology (JNE), which is published by Wiley and which generates most of the BSN’s income. It also has a significant programme of grants and awards. The BSN is in a very successful position, both financially and academically, and offers an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to further develop the Society and its journal. DUTIES Your duties as the Chief Executive Officer / CEO include: * Strategic Leadership: Work with Trustees to develop and deliver strategic plans aligned with BSN objectives * Operational Management: Ensure effective and cost-efficient implementation of programmes, including the journal, events and member services * Governance Oversight: Maintain robust governance frameworks and Charity Commission compliance * Financial Stewardship: Ensure financial stability, income oversight (including journal revenue) and good financial practice * Team Leadership: Provide empowering leadership to staff, freelancers and volunteers * Supplier Management: Oversee relationships with external providers and publishing partners including Wiley * Partnership Development: Lead collaborative partnerships with scientific societies and sector bodies * Member Engagement: Ensure members are supported at all career stages through high-quality services, grants and awards CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL * Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a not-for-profit, charity or membership organisation * Experience of strategic planning and successful implementation of organisational strategy * Strong understanding of governance, regulatory compliance and charity best practice * Experience of financial oversight, budgeting and ensuring financial sustainability * Ability to lead, motivate and empower teams, volunteers and external stakeholders * Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills DESIRABLE * Experience working within a scientific, academic or research environment * Experience managing collaborative partnerships across professional bodies * The ability to steer journal strategy and manage relations with the publisher and editors NO AGENCIES PLEASE CLOSING DATE: 16 April 2026; interviews likely to be a Friday in May 2026 HOW TO APPLY To be considered for this job vacancy, please submit your CV and Cover Letter explaining why you are an ideal candidate to our Recruitment Team who will review your details.
