King’s Church is a growing charismatic, evangelical church of around 200 adults and 50+ children and young people, passionate about following Jesus and seeing lives transformed. We are committed to making disciples, building loving and authentic community, and playing our part in God’s mission in Birmingham and beyond.

Role Overview

The Associate Pastor will play a significant leadership role in the life of King’s Church, helping to strengthen discipleship, pastoral care, and the spiritual health of the King’s Church community.

This is both a pastoral and strategic leadership role, focused on overseeing the Life Group structure, developing pastoral support across the church, and contributing to the wider teaching and ministry life of King’s Church.

The Associate Pastor will help shape the culture and spiritual direction of the church alongside the Lead Pastor and Senior Staff Team.

Key Responsibilities

1.       Life Groups & Discipleship

• Provide leadership and oversight for the Life Group structure across the church
• Develop healthy, welcoming, and spiritually fruitful Life Groups that help people grow in discipleship, community, and our mission together
• Recruit, train, support, and encourage Life Group Leaders and help develop new and/or assistant leaders
• Work with Life Group Overseers to provide ongoing pastoral support and coaching for Life Group Leaders.
• Oversee Life Group resources, communication, and rhythms throughout the year

2.      Pastoral Care

• Oversee and help develop the church’s pastoral care structures and culture
• Coordinate pastoral responses e.g. during times of crisis, illness, bereavement, or difficulty.
• Work alongside other staff and volunteer leaders to ensure pastoral needs are appropriately supported
• Oversee the Sunday Prayer Team, helping to recruit and train team members
• Support and train people for prayer ministry within the life of the church and encourage ‘one-anothering’ with dependence upon God’s Word and His Holy Spirit
• Personally provide some of the pastoral support to individuals and families within the church.

3.      Sunday Ministry & Teaching

• Contribute to the leadership of Sunday meetings as part of the wider staff team and lead on Sunday meetings as required
• Preach and teach as required within the life of King’s church
• Participate in prayer ministry and ministry response times during gatherings
• Support with baptisms, communion, prayer gatherings, and other key church events

4.      Line Management

• Line Manage and develop key staff members and volunteers, including:
  • Students & 20s Co-ordinator
  • Other key pastoral volunteers

Team Meetings:

• Attend Staff meetings on office days Mon-Tuesday and other staff training sessions
• Attend key church-wide mid-week events
• Attend Grace Connection events as part of our wider family of churches

Person Specification

Essential

• A committed Christian with a clear personal faith in Jesus Christ
• In agreement with and actively living out a Christian lifestyle consistent with the values of King’s Church
• Experience of church leadership particularly in leading, discipling, life groups, and developing others
• Experience in preaching, and ability to teach and communicate the Bible clearly and faithfully. Willing to do so in line with King’s Church’s preaching philosophy (document can be provided).
• Ability to handle sensitive pastoral situations with godly wisdom, maturity, and confidentiality
• A love for church and a heart for prayer, discipleship, and seeing God at work in people’s lives

Desirable

• Theological training or equivalent ministry experience
• Experience in a charismatic / Spirit-led church context
• Experience working within a growing church environment
• Experience developing and working with volunteer leaders
• Experience overseeing or coordinating pastoral care systems and teams
• Experience leading prayer ministry teams
• Confidence in facilitating training, equipping, and leadership development environments
• Experience handling safeguarding responsibilities or a willingness to undertake further safeguarding training

Job Details

Location: Birmingham
Salary: £34,114 – £38,378 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday-Thursday + Sunday; evening work required)
Contract: Full-time
Responsible to: Lead Pastor

Occupational Requirement

This role carries a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) under the Equality Act 2010 for the post-holder to be a practicing Christian.
