The Church
Above Bar Church is an established evangelical church in Southampton, affiliated to the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches and shares its basis of faith. The Church also affiliates with the Evangelical Alliance, and connects with other evangelical churches and Gospel-focused organisations in the city.
We are one church operating across two sites:
Our City site meets in our building directly on the main Southampton high street and currently has two services. The morning is attended by up to 400 and the evening service is attended by around 100 people. Both services cover a wide range of ages, cultures, and church backgrounds.
Our East site is a thriving congregation numbering around 100-120 people on a Sunday. We have a range of ages, including many young families. The congregation meets at a local school with which we are building strong links.
Youth Ministry
Our youth ministry is open to young people from school years 7-13. On Sunday mornings we have groups for those in year 7-9 at both our City and East sites. On Monday evenings we hold a homegroup style meeting for Years 10-13 in the home of a couple of leaders. Thursdays is games night open for all Youth but predominantly attended by those in years 7-11.
We are keen to support and encourage the Christians within the Youth at Above Bar Church, whilst providing a safe and welcoming environment for those who are asking questions, and we are keen to develop a programme of outreach within local schools.
The church is led by the Senior Team. This is composed of Elders, who have oversight of the church’s spiritual governance and leadership, and specific senior staff; they equip the church family to serve God effectively. Alongside them a group of Trustees hold responsibility for employment, finance, safeguarding and other legal aspects of the church.
