About the role
The Employee Relations Manager is responsible for leading and embedding a proactive employee relations strategy that promotes a culture of early resolution, fairness, accountability, and positive workplace relationships across the organisation.
The role holder will manage a team providing expert employee relations and policy advice to colleagues, managers and leaders, ensuring consistent application of employment legislation, organisational policies, and best practice. A key focus of the role is to shift the organisation from a reactive case management approach to a preventative and resolution-focused culture, where concerns are addressed early, informally where appropriate, and with a strong emphasis on restoring working relationships.
Duties will include:
- Lead the development and implementation of a positive employee relations framework that promotes early intervention, informal resolution and constructive problem-solving across the organisation
- Champion a culture where managers are empowered and accountable for managing people issues effectively, confidently and consistently
- Manage the day-to-day operational activity of the Employee Relations team
- Lead the review, development and implementation of people policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance, operational effectiveness and alignment with organisational values, and ensure they reflect current legislation and best practice
- Design and deliver training, workshops and guidance materials that strengthen manager capability in handling employee relations issues
- Coach managers to confidently address performance, conduct, attendance and workplace relationship concerns through effective conversations and early intervention
- Provide advice to colleagues, leaders and managers regarding changes in employment law and the potential implications for organisational policy and practice
- Partner within the People Team, and across the organisation, to identify workforce challenges and develop practical people solutions that improve organisational effectiveness and employee experience
- Support organisational change programmes by providing specialist employee relations expertise and ensuring compliance with legal and consultation requirements
- Maintain expert knowledge of employment legislation, employee relations best practice and developments within the wider HR profession
About you
To be a Employee Relations Manager at Certitude, the following are essential:
- Experience of managing and developing team members
- Experience of leading employee relations functions within a complex organisation
- Extensive experience managing complex and high-risk employee relations cases
- Experience of working collaboratively with trade unions and employee representatives
- CIPD Level 7 qualification or equivalent professional experience
- Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law
- Ability to communicate confidently with employees, managers and senior leaders
