New Team SCIO is a Christian charity, alongside young people who hang out on the streets of Govan. We aim to support physical, social, emotional and spiritual development. We make connections with young people through street/detached youth work, strengthening those relationships through other youth work activities, for example trips. We are alongside and serve young people on the streets whether they are interested in finding out more about God or not. We make space for young people to ask us questions about what we believe. The detached youth work sessions target 11-18 year olds but we engage with younger age groups where appropriate and relevant. If we have worked with young people before they turn 18 and if they want to, we carry on working with them until they are 21.
We are a strengths based team that value lived experience. We work with employees to develop shift patterns that work well for both young people and employees.
Design your own job for your skills and availability.
Roles can include some or all of these tasks
Quotes from people who have previously done this job:
Please note we do not have a building. Most non-youth work tasks are done from home.
New Team prioritises keeping young people safe, so we have a child protection policy, all youth work jobs are subject to PVG and we only accept applications by application form, never by CV.
Active Christian faith and a live church connection essential. (Occupational Requirements in terms of the Equality Act 2010.)
Charity number: SC044882
Please email Louise at admin@newteam.org.uk to arrange a 20-40 minute Zoom chat about what the job is like (this is not an interview). Please include 3 possible times for the Zoom chat in your email. The application pack will be emailed to you after that chat. We try to prevent people spending time on an application form if the job is not for them and the chat will also help you to fill out the form well.
Please email with any questions.
New Team SCIO is a Christian street youth work charity, alongside young people in Govan, Glasgow, doing street youth work (detached work) and other youth work activities like trips. We engage with 11-18 year olds who hang out on the streets and continue alongside these young people until they are 21 years old. We aim to facilitate young people’s social, personal, and spiritual development. We are alongside young people on the margins, because we see in the bible that Jesus reaches out to the marginalised. We support young people’s spiritual development according to where they are at. We seek to work with young people towards the full potential of who God made them to be, whether they are interested in a faith journey or not. The areas we target are within the 5% most deprived according to the Scottish Government’s Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (2020). We focus on the young people who have not responded to traditional youth work and school. Many of those we meet on the streets experience adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). New Team SCIO is working towards every young person who hangs out on the streets of Govan having a positive relationship with appropriate adults, that contributes to lowering risk and widens opportunities, including the opportunity to hear the gospel.
